Starting Graduate School.

Today was my first day of graduate school. Although I'm in South Korea, my program at Johns Hopkins University allows me to take some classes online. I was hesitant about this style of learning at first. I had previously taken some undergraduate courses online through the community college in Dallas, but graduate school is a completely different thing. Fortunately, JHU has developed a state of the art program with plenty of support. One of my fears was not being able to network enough. I can toss that fear out of the window because they've created a wonderful system that allows for virtual networking. At a traditional campus, students could only network with students and professors who live/work in a specific area. JHU's MA in Museum Studies program allows individuals to tap into a network of students and professors who live/work all over the world.

Since I am in Korea, I decided to only take one class this semester. My first class is Exploring Museum Professions. The course is one of my required classes, but will be thoroughly beneficial. It will allow me to better understand all of the jobs within a museum (directors, educators, specialists, registrars, marketing, membership, security, exhibit design, computer/IT, media, etc...). Furthermore, it will help me clearly define the roles and responsibilities of museums within today's society.

I'm really excited! Don't judge me!! :)

Online classes offer a lot of support. Sometimes the discussion boards get a little overwhelming but just remember to check in. By the way your cousin had homework yesturday to write a letter to someone who lives far away for homework. Markus chose you. It was a short letter, but when it gets graded I will send it to you.
