Last week on Idol, Casey Abrams was given the judging panel's only save of the season. I thought he was going to die from shock when he heard the news. This week should be just as interesting, but two contestants will be leaving on Thursday. The theme: Elton John. My opinions:
- Scotty McCreery - He sang "Country Comforts" and it was fairly enjoyable. There was something squeaky about his voice during the higher notes. It wasn't his best, but it wasn't bad either. Scotty is consistently improving and pouring his heart into his performances.
- Naima Adedapo - Although I acknowledge she is a long shot to win, I still love her. She sang "I'm Still Standing" and definitely made it her own. Like Scotty's, this performance wasn't Naima's best. She did what she wanted to do though. But.... what was up with the fake accent? Does singing reggae require a Jamaican accent?
- Paul McDonald - He chose "Rocket Man" and it turned out to be my favorite performance of his to date. That was perfect.
- Pia Toscano - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" - In my opinion, that was vocal perfection. She owned that song. This is her competition to lose.
- Stefano Langone - He opted to sing "Tiny Dancer" and deserves to stay another week based on that performance. It was probably his best so far. I could genuinely feel his emotions in the song.
- Lauren Alaina - "Candle in the Wind" is one of favorite Elton John songs. This was best (and my favorite) overall performance of the night and probably her best to date. That was phenomenal on many levels.
- James Durbin - "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" - Once again, he rocked the stage. James is always so much fun to watch. He always seems to be so happy when he performs.
- Thia Megia - "Daniel" provided a platform for Thia to showcase the tender side of her voice. I thought it was beautiful. Like Randy said, it was a safe choice. However, her voice and emotions shined.
- Casey Abrams - "Your Dream" is my favorite Elton John song. Guess what. It was my favorite performance by Casey. His updated look is very nice and his vocal control was excellent.
- Jacob Lusk - "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" - Nope. Not there. He sang it well, but I didn't feel it. There were some great moments vocally, but it just didn't do anything for me.
- Haley Reinhart - "Bennie and the Jets" - Why did she have to do well this week? I'm not going to lie. She chose a song that suited her voice well. This was her best performance. Snaps for Haley.
After last week's surprising results (whether it was a fluke or not), I really have no idea who will be going home.
