American Idol: Top 11

Well, Karen Rodriguez went home last week. Will Haley Reinhart finally leave us this week? We'll see...

This week is an Idol favorite: Motown Week. Here we go:

  • Casey Abrams sang "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye. He stayed true to himself and did a job well done. He always comes across as fearless in his performances. It pays off most weeks.
  • Up next, we have Thia Megia singing "Heat Wave" by Martha and the Vandellas. She brought her A-game and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Age aside, she definitely took a chance and stepped up the tempo of her song selection. Overall, she did a great job.
  • Jacob Lusk chose "You're All I Need to Get By" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. I think this was truly Jacob's week to shine. He confidently controlled and owned this song. Like the judges said, I couldn't find any faults in his performance.
  • Lauren Alaina performed The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On." She brought the attitude. She brought her personality. There were some parts where I thought she could have pushed the vocals a little more. However, it was still a fantastic job.
  • Performing "Hello" by Lionel Richie, Stefano Langone sang his lungs out. I wish I could say he sang his heart out, but that just wasn't the case. His vocals were impeccable. The emotion just wasn't there.
  • Haley Reinhart selected "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" by The Miracle. I'll be honest, this one was better than some of her past performances. I just can't stand her voice. What was up with that last note?
  • Scotty McCreery sang "For Once in My Life" by legendary singer Stevie Wonder. Scotty gets a gold star for staying true to himself the most. It was risky for him to transform this song and make it country. I think it worked.
  • Pia Toscano performed another Stevie Wonder song -- "All in Love Is Fair." Excellent performance. The vocals were beautiful. I agree with J-Lo, I want to see more. She needs to own the stage.
  • Paul McDonald sang "The Tracks of My Tears" by The Miracles. Rod Stewart, Jr. is great. I haven't always enjoyed his husky voice, but this was well seasoned performance.
  • Naima Adedapo chose to sing "Dancing in the Street" by Martha and the Vandellas. That was my favorite performance of the night. She's not the best singer in the competition, but she's my favorite overall performer. I'm glad she knows who she is and isn't afraid to show us. I love Naima. =]
  • Rounding out the night on a great note, James Durbin performed yet another Stevie Wonder song. He sang "Living for the City." James is constantly reliable with his solid performances. I can always feel his emotion in his performances too.
