American Idol: FINALE

We're down to our final two contestants of the season! Scotty McCreery (17) and Lauren Alaina (16) are the youngest pair ever in the American Idol finale. Ryan Seacrest started the show by revealing that Lauren has a strained vocal cord.

Each contestant is slated to sing 3 different songs: a song from earlier in the season, mentor's choice, and Jimmy Iovine's choice.

Round 1 - Personal choice from earlier in the season

  • Scotty McCreery - "Gone" by Montgomery Gentry - This was Scotty's way of metaphorically saying, "Yes, I'm serious. Don't mess with me." He sang that like a pro.
  • Lauren Alaina - "Flat On the Floor" by Carrie Underwood - BAM! Second place is NOT an option for Lauren. She's on fire!
Round 2 - Mentor's choice
  • Scotty McCreery - "Check Yes or No" by George Strait (selected by George Strait - I liked seeing Scotty playing the guitar on stage. However, does anyone else think it distracted him? That wasn't his strongest performance ever. The song choice was cute and suited a 17 year old.
  • Lauren Alaina - "Maybe It Was Memphis" by Pam Tillis (selected by Carrie Underwood) - I think Carrie Underwood was trying to sabotage Lauren... potential competition. That wasn't the greatest song choice. However, I think she sang it very well.
Round 3 - Jimmy Iovine's choice
  • Scotty McCreery - "Love You This Big" - I liked the choice for Scotty. He sang it really well.
  • Lauren Alaina - "Like My Mother Does" by Kristy Lee Cook - PERFECT song choice for Lauren. She sang her heart out. She had a moment and I loved the song so much. Beautiful.
I don't feel like I can make an accurate prediction, but I sincerely hope that Lauren wins. Since the beginning, she has been one of my top favorites. Wouldn't it be great if Lauren and Scotty became a couple? I see potential there.
