American Idol: Top 4

Quick post again tonight since the blog host was down earlier this evening. We're nearing the end and the performances are so good at this stage. Again, each contestant had to choose two songs: a song that inspires them and song from the Leiber & Stoller songbook.

Songs that inspires the contestant:

  • James Durbin - "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey - Honestly, I didn't feel his connection to this incredibly popular song. He sang it very well though.
  • Haley Reinhart - "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson - I think Haley did the best job fulfilling this task. The judges didn't seem to agree. If the judges wanted her to pick a more popular song, they should have made the requirement to choose a popular song that inspires others.
  • Scotty McCreery - "Where Were You" by Alan Jackson - Scotty remained true to himself and the image he has consistently presented. He loves Jesus and he loves God.
  • Lauren Alaina - "Anyway" by Martina McBride - Incredible. Definitely in it to win it.
Songs from the Leiber & Stoller songbook:
  • Haley Reinhart - "I (Who Have Nothing)" - Perfection. The entire performance was superb. Haley has gone from zero to hero in my book. I sincerely hope she doesn't go home this week.
  • Scotty McCreery - "Young Blood" by The Coasters - Someone was definitely having fun tonight. He and Lady Gaga were hilarious together during the coaching session.
  • Lauren Alaina - "Trouble" by Elvis - Excellent up until one spot near the end. That was an overall great performance.
  • James Durbin - "Love Potion No. 9" -  Great, but not amazing. Fun, but not exciting. He really did display his ability to sing anything though.
