Trivia Tuesday: Rhode Island

Did you know that Rhode Island actually has a longer name? The other day, I discovered that the smallest state's name is actually Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. All official state documents even reflect this. I'm fairly knowledgeable about random facts regarding many of the states in the Union, but this was a big one to overlook for so long. It is kind of embarrassing that I didn't know that.

The Ocean State is only slightly larger than 3 times bigger than the city of Dallas, Texas. The state was the first to declare independence from England, but the last of the 13 colonies to become a state. Some other random facts: the oldest operating tavern and oldest library in the the United States can be found in the RI.

Interesting, huh?
