Merry Christmas from Korea!
After 22 years of life, I'm spending my first Christmas away from home. That is part of the reason why the past week has been mentally and spiritually challenging for me (combined with my work situation). A year ago, I never would have guessed this is where I'd be spending this holiday season. My parents and brothers are back stateside (albeit on opposite sides of the continent). My girlfriend is getting some much needed rest and relaxation back home in Dallas. I miss them all terribly. However, after all is said and done, today turned out quite well.
My two friends, Jon and Rathi, came over for a Christmas celebration. We were joined by the daughter of a teacher at Rathi's school. She just graduated from high school and wanted to meet some native English speakers. Coincidentally, she had never properly celebrated this special day. So, we treated her to some Western customs and indulged ourselves with joyful holiday music and scrumptious delights.
As was foreshadowed by our Korean Thanksgiving (Chuseok) meal, Rathi and I failed to minimize our preparations. We set out to make a feast and we accomplished our goal. I made stuffing with cranberries, mashed potatoes with gravy, matzo ball soup (Jewish food for Christmas... hmm...). We also had chicken wrapped in bacon (turkeys are difficult to buy/make here), sweet corn, and Rathi's spicy sweet potatoes (delicious!). Tons of starch, carbs, and protein. Would you have it any other way? I'll be eating leftovers for several days.
After our late lunch, we watched The Muppet Christmas Carol. I hadn't seen that movie in several years. The bunch headed out after the movie and I cleaned up while listening to some Christmas classics. Christmas music never gets old.
Now, I'm enjoying a piping hot mug (thanks for the mug, Jon & Rathi) of hot chocolate (with extra marshmallows, of course) and the 1966 version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Up next: Home Alone 2.
Although I'm many miles away from home and frustrated with work, today feels like Christmas and I'm loving it.
Merry Christmas, y'all! Feliz navidad!
(I'll post some pictures soon.)

For the millionth time, Merry Christmas honey :) I love you and I can't wait to spend next Christmas with you.
I am so happy you have found some great friends in Korea to celebrate with. Merry Christmas...love you lots
Your papa and I missed you so much throughout the entire day. Spending some time with David, you were brought up in many of the conversations. I did speak to your Granny and Grampa, too.
This has been the hardest Christmas I have ever had. I missed you and Joseph so much!!!! Hopefully next year I can have all of my boys with me!
Since Peter and I are in Destin, FL and EVERYTHING was closed, we shared a microwaveable Hormel meatloaf, Birdseye steam in the bag broccoli and the same mashed potatoes you had. Not too bad but definitely not our usual Christmas feast. We viewed the blueray movie Kickass while eating... was pretty cute!
Sweetie, I love and miss you so much, but am so happy that you had such great friends, company and food for your Christmas.
Merry Christmas and here is to a MUCH better New Year to us all!
