Heritage.

I have officially been in Korea for 6 months and 14 days. I'll officially be back home in American in less than 6 months. During my time in Korea, I've often wondered about the heritage of my students. Most of them know that their ancestors have lived in Korea (probably even in the Ulsan area) for over 1,000 years. They might not have the written records to prove it, but they can be fairly certain. Most of them even honor their ancestors through annual rituals and ceremonies.

What can I say about my ancestors? Not much. I'd love to explore my family's heritage. Where do you even begin? This is something I really want to work on and learn more about. I don't even know the first names of my great grandparents... Beyond them, I really don't know anything. Where is my family from? I assume there is English and Irish ancestry. On my father's side, I supposedly have some Native American ancestry. To be completely honest, I'm no even entirely sure of the specific tribe. I've been told various things, but want some solid facts.

Time to start climbing the family tree...
