I'm about to wrap up my first week as the new Volunteer Coordinator at the Museum of Nature & Science in Dallas. So far, so good. Everything has been great. The experience has proved quite rewarding too. I actually come to work excited. Although things have been busy, it is keeping me occupied and constantly giving me something to do. It is so great having the opportunity to turn my passion into my career.
To sum things up, my first week was full of personal discoveries & memorization of passwords. I've done a lot of self-orienting of the museum and have met lots of interesting people (staff and volunteers). My immediate boss is such a trooper. She's really fantastic and works well with people. Within my first week, I helped facilitate one volunteer event (for First Lego League), two volunteer orientations, and contacted several potential volunteers (with my fancy new email address). My first few days here also coincided with the State Fair of Texas (reminds me that I need to do a post on the fried foods of the fair). That made parking and entering the museum an challenge. I now feel quite comfortable navigating the museum complex though.
Side note: I apologize if I've been distant or difficult to reach the past week. Balancing the new job and school has been a challenge, but I'm getting the hang of it.
Fun fact: Did you know your phone charger isn't actually a charger? It is a transformer.
